New wireless registration system
The new Austin ISD wireless network registration solution is called ClearPass. This solution will allow students and staff to more securely connect BYOD devices to the “education” wireless network. It will also allow guest users to self-register for access to the AISD-GUEST wireless network.
Wireless Access for Austin ISD students and staff
All Staff and students must connect to the “education” wireless network. District owned devices will not be permitted to connect to the AISD-GUEST network. If this is attempted, the new system will direct the user to join the “education” network. AISD credentials cannot be used for registration on the guest network. The system will direct the user to the “education” network.
Wireless Access for Austin ISD guests
- The AISD-GUEST network is available for visitors to Austin ISD for short-term access (24 hours) to Internet resources.
- The AISD-GUEST network will not have access to internal Austin ISD network resources (only the Internet).
Any guest devices on a campus will be redirected to a web-based Austin ISD wireless portal. This site will prompt the user to register for a login account using a personal email address as user ID, and a 4 digit passcode will be texted and emailed to the user. These user credentials can then be used to connect to the AISD-GUEST wireless network. A guest login will expire after 24 hours. If a guest requires longer term access, this can be requested through the Austin ISD Technology Service Desk (512-414-8324, from an AISD phone dial ext. 48324) .
How does the BYOD registration work?
Students and staff using personal devices (BYOD - bring your own device) will register their devices by connecting to the AISD “education” network, and logging in at the Austin ISD wireless portal with their existing Austin ISD credentials. The user will be connected to the Austin ISD “education” network, and have access to internal Austin ISD network resources. The initial registration process will require logging in twice to complete the registration. A BYOD registration is valid until the end of July for each school year.
Austin ISD Devices
District owned devices will not be permitted to connect to the AISD-GUEST network. If this is attempted, the new system will direct the user to join the “education” network.
