Austin ISD Internet Accessibility Requirements

The Austin Independent School District is committed to ensuring that its website is accessible to people with disabilities. All the pages on our website will meet W3C WAI's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1/2.0, Level AA conformance. Any issues should be reported to webmaster@austinisd.org

The district's goal is that the information on its website be accessible to individuals with disabilities in compliance with the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and that statute's implementing regulations at 36 CFR 1194, and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and that statute's implementing regulations at 28 CFR Part 35.

Accessible PDFs

If you have issues viewing an accessible version of a PDF in a browser, right-click the PDF to "save target" to your computer, then open the downloaded PDF in the latest Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Professional. Other reader versions or software may not be accessible.

Request for Proposal Language

NOTICE — All electronic and information technology procured through this RFP must meet the applicable accessibility standards of 36 CFR 1194. 36 CFR 1194 implements Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and is viewable at the following URL: http://www.section508.gov. The following Section 508 technical standards are applicable to this RFP, as a minimum: 

  • Software Applications and Operating Systems (1194.21) 
  • Web-based Intranet and Internet Information and Applications (1194.22)  
  • Video or Multimedia Products (1194.24) C.4
  • Printed resources that will be posted online.

Applicants must state their level of compliance to applicable sections to be considered for  this RFP. Applicants who cannot demonstrate their ability to be compliant will not be considered for this RFP, unless the applicant has been granted an exception by the district’s Technology Officer for Learning and Systems, or a designee. 

Contract Language

Vendor represents that all electronic and information technology procured through this contract meets the applicable accessibility standards of 36 CFR 1194. 36 CFR 1194 implements Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and is viewable at the following URL: http://www.section508.gov. The following Section 508 technical standards are applicable to this contact, as a minimum: 

  • Software Applications and Operating Systems (1194.21)
  • Web-based Intranet and Internet Information and Applications (1194.22) 
  • Video or Multimedia Products (1194.24) C.4 
  • Printed resources that will be posted online.

All documents and electronic information resources created by the vendor (e.g., PDFs, files in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, InDesign, etc.) must be accessible by assistive technologies and devices and must meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA standards. The district does NOT provide accessibility training to vendors. The vendor is solely responsible for providing resources that meet these accessibility standards. 

Applicants who cannot demonstrate their ability to be compliant will not be considered for this contract, unless the applicant has been granted an exception by the district’s Technology Officer for Learning and Systems, or a designee.

If a vendor fails to meet accessibility standards, then the district may hire a third-party vendor to make appropriate modifications to documents and resources for accessibility compliance purposes. Vendor will be responsible for the cost of the third-party vendor’s work.
