Join PBS Kids for a session about how to help ensure kids and families have choice in learning this summer. In this session you will learn and acquire resources and information about books, e-books, screen time and family activities.

AISD Tools: Stay Informed & Stay Engaged11 a.m.

The AISD Parent Portal serves as the primary resource for all of the services provided online to our parents. This site gives parents direct access into their child's classroom information, registration to your child's campus, district-wide information and links to other often used services. In this session you will learn about the parent portal and how to navigate the site.

The stress from the multiple pandemics of the 2020-21 school year has made it challenging to meaningfully engage families and to finance the relief and recovery needed for students’ learning and wellbeing. Families’ voices are critical to ensure that school budgets reflect a community’s needs and priorities for our students.

Refugee Journey of Hope5 p.m.

In this session, Samuel Nizigiyimana will share his extraordinary journey as a orphan for more than 24 years. He struggled to rebuild his life both economically and socially. He arrived in the United States as a refugee and was provided opportunities to succeed. He currently works for Austin ISD as a Parent Support Coordinator, serving refugees and immigrants across the district. This session will provide an overview of refugee awareness, how barriers can impact education, and how to be an inclusive society.

Now More than Ever: Family Engagement is Necessary for Student and School Success

8:30 a.m.–10:15 a.m.

Despite over forty years of research linking family engagement to beneficial outcomes for students, educators, families and schools, effective partnership between families and educators has not been recognized as an essential and high priority component of teaching and learning practice. The purpose of this session is to reemphasize the important role that home-school partnerships play in the successful education of children and in the improvement of schools. The session will also provide tools to help educators reimagine their family engagement practice during and after the current COVID pandemic.

Human Sexuality Curriculum

6:30 p.m.

This virtual learning opportunity will update and inform families about the human sexuality curriculum, policies and how to support their children. Parent and caregivers will learn about district policies, curriculum and instructional plans, gain knowledge and skills to support their child and answer the hard questions.
