This program is designed for students who have participated in middle school Dual Language programs or are proficient in Spanish.

 

Program Overview: Students enrolled in the High School Dual Language Program will take two courses taught in Spanish each year: one Spanish course and one core content course.

 

The program is intended for students who participated in middle school Dual Language or are proficient in Spanish. Students enrolled in this program will take two courses taught in Spanish per year, one Spanish Course and one core content course taught in Spanish.

Yearly Spanish Courses (one required each year):

  • AP: Spanish Language & Culture
  • Spanish 5: Heroes & Monsters
  • Latin American Studies
  • Cine las Américas
  • AP: Spanish Literature & Culture
  • Advanced Language and Career Applications (Senior year) 

Core Content Courses (one required each year):

  • Students must enroll in one core content course (Math, Science, or Social Studies) in Spanish per year. Course availability will vary by campus.

Additional courses (optional): 

  • Some campuses may offer additional electives taught in Spanish, though these are optional. Contact your campus to find out more about available Dual Language courses.

 

biliteracy seal

 

Recognition Stole: Upon successful completion of the Dual Language Program, students are eligible to receive the Austin ISD Dual Language Seal of Biliteracy. Seniors in the program will present a Biliteracy Portfolio at the AISD Muestra de Proyectos in the spring of their senior year. After completing this portfolio presentation, students may earn the AISD Recognition Stole with the Biliteracy Seal, which can be worn with their cap and gown at graduation.   • If your student is interested in joining the Dual Language Program and is already proficient in Spanish, please contact your campus counselor.
  • For more information about high schools offering Dual Language, refer to the Dual Language Campuses page.
  • Note: Austin ISD does not provide bus transportation for students transferring to another campus to attend its dual language program.
