Austin ISD Dual Language
This video was produced with the help of the Family Engagement/Enrollment and Advocacy department.
Austin ISD’s Dual Language Program provides literacy and content instruction to students through two languages, promoting bilingualism and biliteracy, grade level academic achievement, and sociocultural competence for all students:
Program Goals:
- Bilingualism and Biliteracy: Students learn to listen, speak, read, and write in both languages for social and academic purposes.
- Grade-Level Achievement: Students gain the knowledge and skills (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) required for their grade level in all subjects.
- Sociocultural Competence: Students engage with multicultural perspectives in order to develop an understanding of their own identity and culture as well as that of others.
Our Dual Language Program follows state and federal laws requiring bilingual education for students who qualify as Emergent Bilinguals under Texas Education Agency guidelines.
All students, regardless of their home language, are welcome to apply to the Program at their home campus or another campus. By law, access to the Program is open to all students, with no restrictions based on race, creed, color, religious affiliation, age, or disability.
