Welcome!
No schools or parts of schools are in the process of naming or renaming at this time. If you would like to propose the naming of a part of your school, please work with the corresponding Campus Advisory Council to initiate the process outlined below.
School Naming Process
The naming process may be initiated by the Austin ISD Board of Trustees, Austin ISD Senior Leadership or by a majority vote of the school Campus Advisory Council.
- If the process is initiated by a CAC, please submit a promotional request to the Department of Communications and Community Engagement to kickoff the engagement process with a press release, website and online nomination form.
- The CAC determines if the entire committee will serve as the naming committee or if a subcommittee will be formed.
- The naming committee must schedule at least three meetings to:
- Develop a strategy for gathering name submissions from a broad cross-section of the campus community including where possible, students, families, staff, alumni and community members.
- Review and tally name submissions and prepare candidate descriptions/rationale.
- Vote on the top three candidates and submit the top three choices in rank order with explanation and documentation, including full nomination form responses and committee meeting minutes.
- DCCE reviews the top three names and submits background checks before bringing the recommendations to the board.
- The board discusses the possible names at a Board Information Session and schedules a potential vote for the following Board Voting Meeting.
- DCCE publicizes the new name through a media release, socials and website.
