The Austin ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted Dec. 14 to name Matias Segura as the lone finalist for the district’s superintendent.
Segura, who currently serves as the district’s interim superintendent, has been with Austin ISD since 2017 when he joined the district as Operations Officer. He served as Chief Operations Officer from 2021 to 2022 when he was selected to lead the district as Interim Superintendent.
On March 30, the board of trustees voted to extend the contract of Interim Superintendent Matias Segura for a year and pause the national superintendent search.
On November 16, the board unanimously approved updates to the Superintendent Profile and voted to move forward with posting the position for the long-term superintendent, forgoing a national search.
The board selected Segura after reviewing six applications. A final vote to approve a contract is anticipated in late January.
Next month, the community will have opportunities to participate in open forums with the lone finalist.
More information and a timeline of the superintendent search can be found on the Austin ISD website. An updated headshot of Segura is now available to accompany any coverage.
