AISD to Conduct Block Walk to Reconnect with Austin Families

Austin ISD volunteers will conduct a block walk to reconnect with Austin families to learn about their education needs and priorities––as well as welcome more learners to its family of schools.

Who: Austin ISD teachers, staff and community volunteers.

What: Austin ISD teachers, team members and community volunteers will participate in Operation Reconnect, a door-to-door campaign to reconnect with families and share information about district program offerings.

When: Saturday, April 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Volunteers will meet at the Nelson Field parking lot, 7105 Berkman Road, at 8 a.m. for a brief orientation. Volunteers will then depart for the walk to designated neighborhoods.

The focus of the event is schools in the northeast corridor of the district. Focus campuses include:

  • Elementary - Andrews, Harris, Pecan Springs and Winn.
  • Middle - Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy and Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy.
  • High - Northeast ECHS.

During the operation, volunteers will share information about the district’s world-class programs, including:

  • Free prekindergarten.
  • Fine arts.
  • Robust enrichment programs, which are available before and after school.
  • Free career preparation programs such as Pathways in Technology.
  • Early College High Schools.
  • Engaged 21st-century learning experience.

Volunteers will be using personal protective equipment to safely participate.
