Austin ISD provides a variety of different learning opportunities for families throughout the district. One way to take advantage of various programs is to apply for a school transfer. AISD will open its annual school transfer window on Tuesday, Jan. 26, inviting families to submit applications for the 2021-22 school year.

Families can take advantage of our robust education opportunities at every grade level that meets each student's unique learning interest. Regardless of which campus families choose, they can feel confident each school provides a comprehensive educational experience that is high-quality, challenging and inspires all students to make a positive contribution to society. 

Requests for school transfers for families living within district boundaries begin Tuesday, Jan. 26. 

In-district transfer requests submitted between Jan. 26 and Feb. 19 will receive equal consideration. In-district transfer requests received after Feb. 19 will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Every child is welcome to join Austin ISD, including families who live outside the district boundaries but wish to enroll students in AISD. The out-of-district transfer window opens Feb. 1 and submissions will be processed in date and timestamp order and considered after the in-district priority and lottery requests.

Some campuses have been identified as closed to transfers (frozen), based on considerations like enrollments that exceed capacity or construction. Schools that are closed to transfers (frozen) may still accept applications for magnet, application or dual-language programs. Families may contact the school directly for more information.

Schools to be closed to transfers (frozen) to kindergarten through 12th-grade in 2021-22:

• High schools: Akins and Bowie.
• Middle schools: Gorzycki, Lamar, and Lively.
• Elementary schools: Baranoff, Cowan, and Kiker.

Priority transfers—including majority-to-minority, sibling and tracking—and general transfers will only be accepted at non-frozen schools. For a transfer to be considered as a priority transfer to a non-frozen school, it must be submitted on or before Feb. 19. 

In-district families whose children are not eligible for a priority transfer, but who wish to be considered in the lottery process for non-frozen schools must also submit transfers on or before Feb. 19. 

Transfers can be submitted online in the Parent Cloud, faxed to 512-414-4994, or mailed to AISD Central Office, 4000 S. IH-35 Frontage Road, Room 151, Austin, TX 78704.
