The Austin ISD Visual and Performing Arts Department is proud to announce the launch of its new virtual series, Follow Your Art: Direct from AISD’s #VirtualPAC.
The series will debut Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. and follow the creative pursuits of AISD students and faculty as they work together to create art in the midst of the COVID pandemic.
The series kicks off with a 40-minute documentary exploring the behind-the-scenes process that resulted in the district’s first-ever virtual Summer Theatre Series — the department’s flagship summer program that featured over 100 middle and high school students from across the district in theatre, dance, choir, band and orchestra.
The remainder of the series in November features performances from the Summer Theatre Series, including a medley from “Shrek the Musical,” the play “Box” and the original piece “Collective Creation.” Additionally, the Middle School Theatre Festival and student artwork from the department’s first visual arts camp in collaboration with The Contemporary Austin-Laguna Gloria will be featured.
“We couldn’t be more excited to launch this series from our Virtual PAC,” said Alan Lambert, Austin ISD director of visual and performing arts. “Given the incredible success of our virtual initiative Create + Connect this past spring, we were inspired to continue to showcase the wonderful work of our students and teachers this year. Follow Your Art will ensure that the hard work of our student artists and their teachers continues to have a spotlight within our community and beyond.”
The series can be viewed on AISD.TV channel 22 and Facebook Live on the AISDArts page, with episodes airing at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning November 3rd. Viewers may also enjoy the series on the department’s social media channels, @AISDArts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and at www.austinisd.org/fine-arts.
