Austin ISD Celebrates first César Chávez-Dolores Huerta Day

The Austin Independent School District celebrates the first-ever celebration in honor of César Chávez and Dolores Huerta on Friday, March 29.

On this day, the district will honor the lives and legacies of the two Hispanic civil rights leaders who formed the United Farm Workers Union in the 1960s to protest the poor treatment of laborers.

Schools will have opportunities to engage students and staff in the celebration, including lessons focusing on both Chávez and Huerta and messages shared on morning announcements and social media.

AISD central administration staff can join in the celebration at a free movie screening of César Chávez at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, March 29 in the CAC Board Auditorium, 1111 W. 6th Street followed by a performance by Vibrass Ska Ensemble, a marching band from San Salvador, El Salvador.
