Austin Parks Foundation awards $50,000, C3 awards $25,000 to project

Austin ISD is celebrating the reopening of the Oak Springs Elementary School playground with a ribbon cutting. Following a fire that left students at Oak Springs without a playground, partners and the community aided AISD to build a new playscape. 

Who: Speakers include Oak Springs Principal Monica Woods, Executive Director of Innovation and Development Michelle Wallis, Austin Parks Foundation CEO Colin Wallis and C3 Marketing Director Patrick Dentler.

What: A check presentation, followed by a ribbon cutting for the new playground and refreshments.

After the ceremony, a second-grade class of about 20 students will have the opportunity to play on the new playground.

When: 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10

Where: Oak Spring Elementary School playground, 3601 Webberville Road

Background: Following a fire in April that left students at Oak Springs without a playground, partners and community members aided AISD in building a new playscape. UT football players also held a volunteer day for a beautification project at the playscape over the summer.

Austin Parks Foundation awarded a $50,000 grant and C3 provided $25,000 to the effort. More than 175 donors contributed nearly $13,000 to an online giving campaign to support the project.
