Goal-Setting Initiative Helps Students Prepare to Enter College and Careers

2017 conference breakout sessions focus on planning for graduation, making transitions, maintaining relationships and essay writing.

The Student With A Graduation Goal initiative equips students, teachers and families with the tools to help students navigate and enter the colleges and careers of their choice.

The 2017 S.W.A.G.G. conference will feature breakout sessions for students and non-students.

Session topics vary from pathways students can follow to attend their choice colleges to a lesson for families and mentors on ways to connect with students about the expectation of graduation.

The program features:

  • Paul Cruz, superintendent of Austin ISD
  • Colette Pierce Burnette, president of Huston-Tillotson University
  • Troy Officer, Austin Police Department commander; and
  • Eboni Wilson, motivational speaker and author of Breaking the Cycle.

What: A college and community fair that will provide participants information and sessions on topics such as preparing for graduation, transitioning to college and maintaining relationships with family.

When: 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27
