Ladies of Distinction Conference Promotes Diversity, Confidence

This conference is designed to help, promote and bring awareness to young women within AISD about facing adversity and overcoming challenges.

When: Registration at 9:30 a.m., conference 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Monday, May 16

Where: AISD Performing Arts Center, 5100 Barbara Jordan Blvd.

Who: Young women in eighth through 12th grades.

What: Wilhelmina Delco, whose own many achievements include being the first African-American on the Austin ISD Board of Trustees and the first African-American state representative for Travis County, will deliver the keynote address at the conference.

Attendees will hear from a panel of college professors, dentists, doctors and engineers. There will also be a variety of breakout sessions that cater to building self-esteem and healthy engagement on social media.

Women from many different careers and ethnic backgrounds will lead classes that range from banking to fitness.

Background: Ladies of Distinction was established in 2012 to provide a safe and positive environment to cultivate young women into service-driven and goal-oriented leaders.
