Help AISD Envision a Magnet School Program for South Austin

District seeking community input on potential new south magnet program

Austin ISD wants community feedback on proposals for a potential new south magnet program to provide students greater access to magnet programming.

Currently, no magnet programs exist in South Austin high schools, which include Akins, Austin, Bowie, Crockett and Travis.

The Liberal Arts and Science Academy, at its current location at LBJ High School, has reached capacity and district data shows that a slight majority of its enrollment and student applicants are from the south Austin community.

Community members will have the opportunity to review the program proposals and will be asked to complete surveys to further inform the south magnet program committee's work.

The meetings are come-and-go meetings so community members can arrive at any time and stay as long as they would like. The meeting format will ensure all attendees receive the same information regardless of arrival time.

Event 1: 8-11 a.m. April 16 at Covington Middle School, 3700 Convict Hill Rd.
The location is accessible by public transit via these routes: Route 111 and Route 333.

Event 2: 4-7 p.m. April 28 at Mendez Middle School, 5106 Village Square Dr.
The location is accessible by public transit via these routes: Route 7 and Route 338.

AISD also encourages community members to click here to view the five proposals and to complete an online survey.

Refreshments and childcare services will be provided.
