Puppets, Jewelry and Recycled Art: Schools Bring MakerSpace Madness to North Austin

Lanier library to host MakerSpace literacy event Jan. 30

Lanier High School and the schools that feed into it are hosting a literacy event to help inspire children to become lifelong readers.

Who: Libraries at Lucy Read Pre-K Center, Cook, McBee, Padron, Wooldridge and Wooten elementary schools; Burnet Middle School; and Lanier High School will host MakerSpace Madness.

What: MakerSpace Madness will feature fair-style booths for students to experiment with technology, create art with recycled materials and make take-away projects such as puppets and jewelry.

Each child also will receive a free book. There will be light refreshments and raffle prizes for attendees.

A story time featuring maker-themed stories will take place during the last hour of the program.

Where: Lanier High School library, 1201 Payton Gin Road

When: 9 a.m.–noon Saturday, Jan. 30
