Austin ISD will celebrate Youth Art Month Jan. 31–Feb. 16 with more than 1,500 works of all kinds of art in an exhibit representing 113 elementary, middle and high schools.

In addition, 10 billboards designed by 11^th-grade Travis Early College High School art student Juan Salcedo will be displayed around Austin. Govalle Elementary School fifth grade student Phoenix Tovar designed the 2016 T-shirts, which are being sold at AISD schools.  

What: The exhibit includes painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, collage, weaving, ceramics, photography, jewelry and electronic media.

When: The exhibit is also available to the public Mon.–Fri. 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; Sat. 10 a.m.– 3 p.m.; and Sun. noon–4 p.m. A reception will be held 1–3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31. Refreshments will be provided.

Where: AISD Performing Arts Center, 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd.

Free parking is available in the Performing Arts Center parking garage.

Background: Students express themselves and their traditions through their art creations. By studying art styles from prehistoric to modern times, the students have incorporated art history into their own cultural and personal style. The exhibit shows what students learned through the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills art lessons that include perception, response/evaluation, creative expression, and history and culture.
