To increase excitement around science, technology, engineering and math, and career and technical education, Circuit of The Americas has partnered with Austin ISD to give teachers and students a championship race experience at the 2015 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix on Sunday, October 25.

“We’re thankful to have such a great relationship with COTA through the F1 in schools program and its support for STEM and CTE programming,” AISD Superintendent Paul Cruz said.

“Our teachers and students work hard and showing them what can be achieved through strong STEM and CTE education helps encourage them to strive to achieve,” Cruz said.

As a global motor racing sport, F1 is built on leading edge science and technology, and nothing can compare to an in-person experience to fully appreciate how important STEM and CTE skills are incorporated into Formula 1 teams.

“Formula 1 is the most technologically advanced sport – a true application of science and math, and it’s appropriate that we use this time to recognize the teachers. It is through their guidance that we encourage and prepare the next generation of engineers and scientists,” said Bobby Epstein, co-founder and chairman of Circuit of the Americas.

“While the end result is entertainment and competition, the science behind the winners is intense. We hope to use the Grand Prix weekend as an opportunity for fun and inspiration,” Epstein said.

In addition, Austin has been selected to host the 2016 F1 in Schools™ World Finals where student teams from around the world will use advanced design software to engineer, build and race CO2 cartridge powered F1 model racecars. The Austin event will be in conjunction with the 2016 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas.

COTA has hosted area teachers and students at the race every year since the inaugural U.S. Grand Prix in 2012.
