AISD Shuts Down on Fridays During Summer to Save Energy, Cut Costs

Beginning this week and ending Aug. 14, Austin ISD will operate on a summer efficiency schedule.

The program--which includes all district campuses being closed on Fridays--reduces energy, water and wastewater costs during the summer months. During the summer 2014 shutdown the district saved about $716,000.

All schools and offices adopt a four-day workweek during this time. Business hours will be 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. All district and campus offices will be closed on Fridays.

The district also will be closed for one week, from Monday, June 29, through Friday, July 3. All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period.

AISD's regular, five-day workweek will resume Monday, Aug. 17. Classes for the 2015-16 school year begin Monday, Aug. 24.
