'Lip Service' chosen as part of 2015 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase
Ten Austin ISD students will be attending one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, Festival de Cannes, next month in France.
Their short film will be featured as part of the Black Lives Black Stories Matter edition of the 2015 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase.
A one-time screening is being held of "Lip Service," a short film produced by Krew 12, a group of students involved in the African-American Youth Harvest Foundation's youth media group. Ten students from AISD helped produce the film.
Where: Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar, 1120 S. Lamar Blvd.
When: 7-9:30 p.m. Monday, April 27
What: A screening of "Lip Service" and other films by Krew 12, followed by a question-and-answer session. A silent auction will take place after the screening to raise funds for Krew 12 to travel to France.
Background: The short film is about a professional lip-reading instructor meeting a new student at a city park to observe different people in conversation.
The students will travel to Cannes to share their film and the story of who they are with the international film community. This is the second consecutive year Krew 12 has been invited to the Festival de Cannes.
Krew 12 is a 9-12 grade program from the AAYHF that teaches life and technology skills to high school youth. Along the way, the students learn how to lead workshops for middle school students, expand their skillset in various types of media, visit colleges and universities, and participate in career shadowing.
