Summitt Elementary School is gearing up to celebrate Tet, the most important and popular holiday in Vietnam.

What: A fundraising dinner, followed by a performance followed by a dragon dance. The performance includes a martial arts demonstration, singing, dancing and taiko drums. Tickets are $3 for general seating, $5-10 for seating in the first 10 rows and $5 for dinner.

When: Friday, Feb. 13, fundraiser dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. performance and dragon dance

Where: Summitt Elementary School, 12207 Brigadoon Lane

Background: Tet is celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Lunar calendar, which falls around late January or early February. The celebration shares many of the same customs of the Chinese New Year and was derived from Chinese traditions. It is customary that families clean their homes before the first day of the new year to sweep away any bad luck and make way for incoming good luck.

Summitt Elementary School is AISD’s host campus for the Vietnamese dual language program. The Vietnamese dual language program serves to promote bilingualism, biculturalism, and biliteracy for all participating students, both Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese.
