A service event for students is being held as a joint project between Austin ISD, A Legacy of Giving, Capital Area Food Bank and the Junior League of Austin.

A Legacy of Giving partners with AISD schools to teach students about philanthropy and become aware of poverty in Central Texas to help improve their communities and the world.

At the event, students from 26 Austin ISD schools will deliver PODS filled with food, coats and other items for families in need in Central Texas. The schools had two weeks to fill their POD and the goods will be distributed afterwards through partnerships with Capital Area Food Bank and the Junior League of Austin.

Where: Capital Area Food Bank, 8201 S. Congress Avenue 

Background: The Day of Giving event is a culmination of in-class coursework and service learning that challenges students in each participating school to fill a POD with collections of goods to help those in need. Last year, AISD schools collected 25,455 pounds of canned goods and 2,632 coats for the event.

The Capital Area Food Bank serves nearly 46,000 people each week across 21 counties in Central Texas and the Junior League of Austin’s Coats for Kids project distributed approximately 33,000 coats to children in Central Texas to stay warm last winter.
