Media Advisory: Austin ISD Promotes Literacy During International Read for the Record Day Oct. 21

AUSTIN, Texas—Austin ISD will be promoting reading throughout its elementary schools during International Read for the Record Day.

What: Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz will read “Bunny Cakes,” by Rosemary Wells to bilingual kindergarteners.

When: 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21

Where: Barrington Elementary, 400 Cooper Drive

Background: International Read for the Record Day is an initiative by Jumpstart. Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students and community Corps members to serve preschool children in low-income neighborhoods.

People from all around the world will promote reading by reading the same book some time throughout the day.

This year’s book, “Bunny Cakes,” is a comical story of sibling bonding and birthday shenanigans, by bestselling author and illustrator Rosemary Wells.
