Media Advisory: Austin ISD to Hold Dedication Ceremony for Bertha Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy

AUSTIN, Texas—This weekend, Austin ISD will hold an official dedication ceremony for the Bertha Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy.

What: A dedication ceremony, featuring remarks by Congressman Lloyd Doggett, Former State Rep. Wilhelmina Delco, Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz and AISD Trustee Cheryl Bradley

When: 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11

Where: Bertha Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy, 6401 N. Hampton Drive

Background: On April 28, the Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the name of Bertha Sadler Means Young Women's Leadership Academy for the renaming of Pearce Middle School. Beginning this school year, the school opened as a middle school for young women.

The Bertha Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy educates students in a cooperative learning environment that promotes scholarship, leadership, character education and community service leading toward a successful transition to the Early College High School to pursue success in college, career and life.
