AUSTIN, Texas—The Austin Independent School District released the following statement regarding the Texas Civil Rights Project’s (TCRP) press conference on Tuesday:
The district was made aware of the Texas Civil Rights Project’s press conference on school closures Tuesday, Sept. 2, by the local media. Since that time, the TCRP has provided a copy of its “Issue Briefing School Closure and Civil Rights” to the district. Pursuant to the Facility Master Plan, the district acknowledges that school closures are but one of a number of options available to address challenges posed by under-enrolled schools. The district continues to meet with community to address the problems of under-enrollment in some of its schools.
