Media Advisory: AISD Hosts Back-to-School Bash and Safety Fair

Event Features District Programs, Safety Lessons and Free Immunizations

AUSTIN, TX—Austin ISD is helping families prepare for the 2014-15 school year at the Back-to-School Bash and Safety Fair.

What: AISD’s Back-to-School Bash will provide families information about district programs and community services to help prepare students for a new school year.

When: 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 16

Where: Austin Convention Center, 500 E. Cesar Chavez St., Exhibit Hall 4

Background: The Back-to-School Bash offers AISD families the opportunity to learn about the district’s programs and services. Families are invited to participate in activities such as booster-seat fittings and school-zone, safety lessons.

Seton Medical Center will provide free immunizations to students who bring their vaccination records. Last year, about 300 vaccines were administered.

More than 3,000 backpacks will be given away during the event.

AISD will provide free shuttle service every 30–45 minutes to and from the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. from:

  • Covington Middle School, 3700 Convict Hill Road
  • Guerrero Elementary School, 102 East Rundberg Lane
  • Lanier High School, 1201 Payton Gin Road
  • Martin Middle School, 1601 Haskell St.
  • Mendez Middle School, 5106 Village Square
  • Reagan High School, 7104 Berkman Drive
  • One Texas Center, 505 Barton Springs Road
