District offers Lunch and Learn for media about AISD budget
AUSTIN, Texas—In preparation for Austin ISD’s community budget meetings in April, the district is launching the first session of its Lunch and Learn series for the media with an introduction to AISD’s budget and the district’s annual process and timeline, including the recent publication of the preliminary budget and scheduled board action for the 2014-15 school year’s budget.
What: Nicole Conley, chief financial officer, and Leo Lopez, executive director of finance, will provide information about AISD’s preliminary budget and will guide media through the community budget presentation and the resources available to media to cover the district’s finances for the public.
When: Noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 2. Lunch will be provided, beginning at 11:45 a.m.
Where: Carruth Administration Center, Suite C150, 1111 W. Sixth St.
Background: AISD is inviting families and staff and community members to learn more about AISD's 2014-15 preliminary budget and the district’s strategic investment in priorities, projected shortfalls and long-range financial planning.
The meetings are:
- from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Crockett High School, cafeteria, 5601 Manchaca Road and
- from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at McCallum High School, cafeteria, 5600 Sunshine Drive.

Budget Materials and Preparation for Q+A: The finance team has provided copies of the district’s preliminary budget and the presentation for the community budget meetings in English and Spanish. To ensure the finance team has the opportunity to answer questions during the lunch, please review the preliminary budget and presentation and identify questions before the meeting.
