Media Advisory: News Media Access to Schools Limited During STAAR and TAKS Examination Periods

Austin, Texas—Students in the Austin Independent School District are scheduled to take state exams, including the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness and the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, during March, April and May.

To reduce distractions and help students focus on their tests, the news media’s access to AISD campuses will be limited during the weeks of:

March 31 for STAAR
April 21 for STAAR and TAKS
May 5 for STAAR and
May 12 for STAAR.

In addition, the district will administer advanced placement exams, also commonly referred to as AP exams, May 5-16.

As has been the practice on test days in the past, the district will continue to limit visitors’ access to schools during student assessment periods. As always, AISD appreciates the news media’s cooperation.
