AUSTIN, Texas—Austin City Councilman Bill Spelman appointed AISD’s Summit Elementary School’s Thuy Nguyen to the Asian American Quality of Life Advisory Commission on February 27.
“I love helping the underprivileged,” Nguyen said. “It is an honor and a blessing to be in a position which allows me to assist the Asian American population in improving their lives and having their voices heard.”
The commission will advise the Austin City Council on issues related to the Asian American Resource Center and will provide ongoing guidance and support for the City's Asian American quality of life initiatives. Committee members volunteer for a three-year term.
Summit Elementary School is AISD’s host campus for the Vietnamese Dual-Language Program. The Vietnamese Dual Language Program serves to promote bilingualism, biculturalism, and biliteracy for all participating students, both Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese.
