Media Advisory: Metz and Zavala Elementary Schools Walk Against Hate

Students, staff, parents and faculty join to encourage diversity, peace and tolerance

AUSTIN, Texas—This week, Metz and Zavala elementary schools are joining together in a Walk Against Hate.

What: Metz students and staff will begin to walk around their school while Zavala students and staff walk to Metz. Both schools will meet in front of Metz for a short presentation. Walkers will wear a Metz shirt, Zavala shirt or white T-shirt to show support of diversity, peace, tolerance, love and acceptance.

When: 8:15 a.m. Friday, March 7

Where: Metz Elementary School, 84 Robert Martinez Jr. St.

Background: The walk is a part of AISD’s No Place for Hate initiative. Launched in 2001, No Place for Hate is a national initiative that provides educators and students with resources to ensure that anti-bias and diversity education are an integral part of the school curriculum. It helps to create and sustain inclusive school environments where all students feel valued and have the opportunity to succeed by promoting respect for individual difference while challenging bigotry and prejudice.
