AUSTIN, Texas--Tonight, Austin ISD's Board of Trustees voted to extend professional employees contracts from one year to three years.

During the January 2014 consultation process under Board Policy DGB (Local), Education Austin and the administration reached impasse on the issue of duration of employment contracts for professional employees.

AISD has 5,900 total professional employees who will be affected by this decision, which includes 5,400 professionals such as teachers, librarians, etc. and 500 administrators. The administration will begin preparing three-year contracts for the start of the 2014-15 school year. The board will approve all contracts April 28.
