AUSTIN, Texas—The Austin Independent School District invites students and their families to learn about the numerous resources available to them at Feria Para Aprender, the largest Spanish-language education fair in Central Texas.
What: The eighth annual Feria Para Aprender, which is free and open to the public, will include a mariachi group and jazz band alongside resources for families.
When: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22
Where: ACC Highland Mall, Former Men’s Department, 6001 Airport Blvd.
Background: Feria Para Aprender provides resources, information and services parents need to help their children succeed academically and to close the achievement gap. AISD will have more than 20 informational booths and be among the more than 100 informational and educational exhibits by colleges, universities, nonprofits and local organizations.
At the fair, AISD will lead two town hall meetings. “Graduation Plans” will lead parents through the new plans under House Bill 5 and “Building Successful Schools” will explain the role facilities plays in student success and learning.
Families can also participate in AISD’s interactive graduation plan walkway, where participants will “walk” through the discipline area of their choice to learn about the various courses they would need to take in order to graduate. They will also have the opportunity to speak with a professional in that particular discipline area. At the end of the activity, participants will be provided an opportunity to “graduate” with a diploma.
The event serves as an important educational and outreach tool for AISD to reach its largest student and family population.
