AUSTIN, TX—Austin ISD will hold the official groundbreaking and construction preview for the new North Central Elementary School No. 2 next week.
What: Groundbreaking ceremony, featuring remarks by Board President Vince Torres, Trustee Ann Tiech, Superintendent Meria Carstarpen and Director of Construction Management Jeff Kauffman.
When: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1
Where: 2011 W. Rundberg Lane
Background: To help alleviate overcrowding and address the needs of the school district’s growing community, a total of nine new schools and a district-wide performing arts center were included in the 2004 and 2008 bond programs.
The new elementary school will be located in north central Austin. Due to limited available land in the area, the Board of Trustees approved the purchase of a site with an existing building, which the school district will adapt and repurpose for use as a school facility.
This year, North Central Elementary School No. 1 opened as the Janis Guerrero-Thompson Elementary School.
