AUSTIN, TX—Austin ISD presents the McCallum Fine Arts Academy Showcase and Open House for prospective students and their parents.
Who: Eighth and ninth graders, who are interested in pursuing an intensive high school course of study in music, dance, visual/digital arts or theatre, and their families
What: Fine Arts Academy performances, classroom visits and opportunities for prospective students to meet faculty members and fine arts students
When: 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26
Where: McCallum Arts Center, 5600 Sunshine Drive
Background: The McCallum Fine Arts Academy is an advanced academic program where students can major in music, dance, visual arts or theatre.
Eighth and ninth grade students who live within AISD’s boundaries can apply in January and audition in February to start the program the following school year. Students who are accepted to the Fine Arts Academy are granted an AISD curriculum transfer to McCallum High School.
McCallum, which has 1,624 students this year, is a member of the Arts Schools Network, an organization committed to promote excellence in arts education by supporting and recognizing students, leaders, educators, schools, institutions and organizations. McCallum High School is among the best high schools in the nation, according to rankings by Newsweek and the Daily Beast.
