Austin, TX—Tonight, the Austin Independent School District's Board of Trustees confirmed Superintendent Meria Carstarphen's appointments of Gilma Sanchez as principal of Barrington Elementary School and Deborah Warnken as principal of Cowan Elementary School.

Gilma Sanchez serves as the assistant principal at both Cunningham and Zilker elementary schools. Sanchez has a wide range of experiences within the field of education that have prepared her for the role of principal. She has a history of working with the district and improving student performance. Sanchez also has been a counselor at Langford Elementary School and Reagan High School.

Deborah Warnken is the assistant principal at Cowan Elementary School, where she has proven her commitment to servant leadership and earned the respect of the school community through her collaborative efforts to serve all students. Warnken also has served as an elementary school counselor at both Cowan and Menchaca Elementary Schools.
