Austin, TX—Tonight, the Austin Independent School District's Board of Trustees approved naming Suzanne Burke as the new associate superintendent for academics, effective July 1.
Burke has served as executive director of curriculum in AISD since July 2011. She has been instrumental in developing curriculum aligned to AISD's strategic plan and the district's annual academics and facilities recommendations. Prior to joining the district, she served as director of curriculum and professional development, supervisor of professional development and specialist of language arts curriculum for Round Rock ISD.
"I look forward to working closer with the office of academics teams and preparing our students to be college and career ready," Burke said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to promote high levels of achievement for each and every student regardless of ethnicity, gender or socio-economic status."
In her new duties, Burke will support the chief academic officer and lead academics staff members in meeting the needs of the district's diverse learners.
"I am thrilled to have Suzanne Burke as our associate superintendent for academics," Meria Carstarphen, Austin ISD Superintendent, said. "Suzanne has extensive experience in curriculum and she will be a tremendous asset to our leadership team."
