Austin, TX—Tonight, the Austin Independent School District's Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Leo Lopez as the new executive director of finance, effective July 1.
Lopez has served as manager in the Office of School Finance for the Texas Education Agency where he implemented school finance provisions in House Bill 1 of the 79th Texas Legislature. He also developed methodologies to provide projections for the Foundation School Program's year-end surplus/deficit and future cash needs, which are used by the Legislative Budget Board, comptroller and governor's offices.
As executive director of finance for Austin ISD, Lopez will direct the operations of budget, treasury, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, risk management, employee benefits and Medicaid. He also will oversee systems and procedures to ensure practical management and internal control systems.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to work with AISD and continue to build and maintain relationships with school districts and other education-related organizations," Lopez said. "It is a privilege to be a part of the district's mission as a public education institution."
