Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District will host a screening of the movie, "Bully" Wednesday, April 25, at Alamo Drafthouse. The screening will feature a discussion immediately following the film led by Superintendent Meria Carstarphen.
"Bully" is a documentary that follows five kids and families during the course of a school year. The documentary features stories about two families who have lost children to suicide and a mother awaiting the fate of her 14-year-old daughter who has been incarcerated after bringing a gun onto her school bus. The film offers an intimate glimpse into homesmore », classrooms, cafeterias and principals' offices, offering insight into the often cruel world of the lives of bullied children. As teachers, administrators, kids and parents struggle to find answers, the dire consequences of bullying are examined through the testimonies of these families. The film aims to be a catalyst to change the way bullying is addressed by parents, teachers, children and society as a whole.
