LEO Claus Program Makes the Holidays Possible for AISD Families

Since December 2016, Austin ISD Officer Orlando Rodriguez has been rallying support for his fundraising program that helps AISD families with gifts or financial assistance during the holidays.

The Law Enforcement Officer's Santa Claus Program, or LEO Claus, aims to provide families in need with the same opportunities as others, leading to a more joyous holiday season. LEO also stands for "laughter, excitement and outreach," which are the goals of this program.

How the Program Began

While performing his duties as a school resource officer, Rodriguez observed the financial difficulties that many families at AISD encounter during the holidays. In December 2016, he was asked by a school administrative assistant if he would like to be a sponsor for children and their families who might not otherwise have gifts. That year, Rodriguez and his wife agreed to sponsor three children. Since then, his compassion for giving led him to start the program and seek the assistance of other sponsors for donations of money, gifts, vouchers and their time.

In December 2019, the program grew significantly with the added support and fundraising initiatives of AISD Police Chief Ashley Gonzalez. Please see the most recent photos and download t the 2023 Letter to Sponsors below for additional information.
