Happy September!
I hope you had a great week of learning.
|
1 big thing: Welcome to the Virtual Learning Newsletter
|
We’ll start sending this newsletter focused on Virtual Learning families so we can stay connected and up-to-date on what’s happening week-to-week.
Why it matters: It’s important to build community and clear communication, especially since we’re not all in one place.
What's next: Keep an eye out for this newsletter in the future and know it will have important information.

2. New teachers are coming
|
New teachers will be coming to support Virtual Learning thanks to the annual leveling process and some new hires.
Why it matters: We know students need consistent support from teachers and this is one way to make that happen.
-
The district goes through the annual process, often called leveling, to help balance class sizes districtwide.
-
We’ll benefit from this process since we’ve seen a need for more teachers in the virtual learning option.
Go deeper: Each year, after students show up on campus and we have real numbers, we determine which campuses have too many and which campuses have too few teachers based on actual school enrollment. Teachers will get new assignments based on this information
What's next: If your child’s class is affected, you will be notified by this weekend.
|
|
We’re going to kick off community-building activities, including grade-level assemblies next week.
Why it matters: Just because we’re all learning virtually doesn’t mean we can’t take some time to get to know each other and have fun.
|
|
4. Free meals are available for virtual students
|
Austin ISD is offering free meal packs for all virtual students each Wednesday beginning Sept. 15.
Why it matters: Life is busy enough without worrying about meals.
Big picture: Meals are available for pickup from 2:30-3:30 p.m. the following locations:
What's next: No further action is required for families who completed the site selection survey.
-
If your family is interested in picking up meals for your virtual student, but did not complete the survey, please provide Food Service with your virtual student’s first and last name, student ID number, and school name prior to the meal distribution day.
-
Contact AISD Food Service by phone at 512-414-0251 or through Let’s Talk by sending a text to 512-229-9110 or submitting a message online.

What's next: Families can refer students to be screened for Gifted and Talented (GT) Services by contacting the Campus GT Advocate.
