Monday, May 6
I’ll start my day by discussing our upcoming plans for electric buses. Then we’ll have our standing Senior Leadership Meeting to discuss the budget, our scorecard development process and prepare for this week’s board meetings. After that, I’ll attend the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Kick-Off event at Central Office. In the afternoon, I’ll meet with Hugh Forrest from SXSW about the coordination of school calendars and SXSW Events. I’ll meet with Chief Hosack (Talent Strategy), our Board Officers, Chief Rodriguez (Technology), Trustee Hunter, and Chief Ghilarducci (Communications and Community Engagement).
Tonight, the Ombuds Office is hosting a community meeting to gather input about recruiting a Special Education Ombudsperson. Austin ISD families and staff are welcome to participate and are asked to RSVP for the in-person meeting from 6–8 pm at the Govalle Elementary School cafeteria.
Tuesday, May 7
Today, I’ll start my day working with my team on the budget. Then, I’ll meet with the Anti-Defamation League, Rabbi Daniel Septimus and Rabbi Blumofe. After that, we’ll have our bi-weekly Special Education check-in.
This evening, there’s a second community meeting to provide input on the Special Education Ombudsperson. Today’s session will be virtual from 12–1:30 p.m. and you can register via Zoom. For more information about the Ombuds Office, visit www.austinisd.org/ombuds-office.
I’ll end the day at Lee Elementary, where I’ll join the Cubing Club and get to solving some Rubik Cubes. I love a good challenge and I can’t wait to hang out with the Lee Roadrunners and get to solving.
Wednesday, May 8
I’ll be at Career day at Ortega Elementary this morning. These are always fun events and I love telling our students about our work. Then I’ll visit the African American Youth Harvest Foundation before I head over to PBS to have a meeting about our continued partnership.
Tonight is our annual celebration of Austin ISD — Salute. We’ll be walking the red carpet and honoring Campus Clerical/Office Support Staff of the Year, Teaching Assistant of the Year, Custodial/Facilities Maintenance Staff of the Year, Transportation Staff of the Year, Food Service/Warehouse Staff of the Year, Campus Safety and Security Staff of the Year, Librarian of the Year, Counselor of the Year, Assistant Principal of the Year, PTA of the Year and Principal of the Year. We love our Austin ISD staff and want them to know how important they are to the success of Austin ISD.
Thursday, May 9
This morning I’ll get to review our graduation plans, and then I’ll meet with the Austin Ed Fund for our Regular Board Meeting. Then I head to Wooten Elementary for the groundbreaking for their construction project as part of the 2022 Bond Program. In the afternoon, I have review time set aside to ensure we are prepared for tonight's Board Meeting. On the agenda this evening is a presentation on Constraint 1, a Special Education Update, a presentation on the 2024–25 Recommendations for the General Fund, Food Services, and Debt Services Budget, and we’ll spend time discussing our new Scorecard.
Friday, May 10
Today starts with another Career Day at Govalle Elementary. Then I’ll head back to the office, where I’ve set aside time for strategic planning and preparing for the 2024–25 school year.
