2. 👷 2017 Bond work more than 85% complete

Why it matters: It wasn’t just new schools. The bond included major upgrades to critical systems like HVAC and plumbing, plus technology and sustainability—so every student benefited.

-
11 modernized schools expected to receive LEED & AEGB certification.

3. Austin ISD Marching Band Jamboree
|
🎶 This past week at the Toney Burger Center, Austin ISD celebrated their 49th annual Marching Band Jamboree featuring bands from all AISD high school programs.
The event provides students the opportunity to perform together and showcase their talents. This year Texas State Marching Band performed for Austin ISD students and parents during the event.
Hundreds of people including band members from the AISD united for the annual Marching Band Jamboree.
The annual performance also serves as the largest fundraiser for the fine arts programs in the district.

4. Austin ISD wins Javits Grant
|
|
📒 Austin ISD is one of four schools in the country to win a prestigious grant that will help the district narrow or close an equity gap in Gifted and Talented programming.
What they’re saying: “The grant enables us to hire more staff to provide more targeted and directed support to our Title 1 campuses, while also knowing all students across the district will benefit from this implementation,” said Dr. Elizabeth Severance, Director of Advanced Academics.
Why it matters: The Javits Grant will allow Austin ISD to double the size of its Gifted and Talented or GT team.
-
The team will add specialists who will focus on closing the equity gap through non-verbal assessments, increased family outreach, and improved professional learning.
-
The grant will also enable Austin ISD to implement a universal screener for second-graders starting next school year.
By the numbers: 13% of Austin ISD’s students are tagged as gifted & talented, but only 27% of them as economically disadvantaged.
What’s next: Email advancedacademics@austinisd.org for details.
