Conversation Corps at Palm ES

Date
Wednesday, March 23, 2016 - 8:00 am to 9:00 am

AISD is a key partner in hosting Conversation Corps dialogues. Every month, groups of civic-minded folks convene all around town to discuss a topic that affects communities directly. Conversations take place in a variety of venues - schools, houses of worship, community centers, coffee shops and restaurants – and last about an hour. Trained facilitators lead the group through a structured dialogue, offering everyone a chance to share their thoughts and respond to what they’ve heard others say.

March 2016: Recycling & Composting – Creating a Zero Waste City

Austin has set a goal to be a Zero Waste City by 2040. Zero Waste is a philosophy that goes beyond recycling to focus first on reducing trash and reusing products and then recycling and composting the rest. Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) is on the front lines of achieving this goal and provides a wide range of services designed to transform waste into resources while keeping our community clean.

In March, ARR is partnering with Conversation Corps to provide dialogue opportunities about expanding residential curbside services. Residents are asked to weigh in about weekly recycling collection as well as expansion of Curbside Organics Collection from the 14,000-household pilot to citywide. Austin Resource Recovery wants to know what kinds of services the community wants and what they are willing to pay for those services.

AISD fits perfectly into this conversation, specifically the sustainability efforts Jennifer Cregar and the Office of Sustainability are leading.
