Come join us for sixth annual Feria Para Aprender, a free Spanish-language education fair that will help you and your child learn to navigate the US educational system from elementary school through college. The Feria will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the North Austin Event Center (10601 N. Lamar).
This event is designed to help Spanish-speaking parents become key leaders of their children’s academic success. New this year will be sections of the event devoted specifically to teenagers. Girl and boy “Teen Zones” will inform families about resources available for their older children. Volunteers in these areas will encourage children to remain active in school and participate in STEM programs. Another addition to the Feria is the “Anti Bully Zone.” Here families will be able to learn the warning signs of bullying. Experts will also help parents understand the many forms of cyber bullying and how these virtual forms of bullying can be just as detrimental as physical actions.
Many AISD departments, nonprofit organizations and several universities will also be on hand to answer questions ranging from early childhood education to scholarship applications. In addition, professionals from many in-demand careers will speak about their experiences and the benefits of education.
