During an evening full of excitement and pride, Austin ISD proudly celebrated its 1,000th Maestro en Casa graduate since the program’s inception in 2015.
- Participants attend classes at their students' schools to learn English, manage common scenarios, and grasp key vocabularies in areas like housing, health, finance, work, education, and citizenship.
Why it matters: Graduates of the program can better support their child’s education and stay engaged in the Austin ISD community and beyond.
- “It is an honor to be here sharing a great achievement with our parents,” said Lynn Boswell, Secretary of the Austin ISD Board of Trustees. “Learning a second language is not easy. It takes dedication and a lot of willpower — you have great strength of spirit,"
By the numbers: This year’s 175 graduates originated from 19 countries and with nine native languages.
What they’re saying:"My Maestro en Casa experience has allowed me to cross that language barrier by extending the boundaries of my world and giving me the confidence to actively participate in this great community," Aurora Gonzalez Cosme, a 2024 graduate from Casey Elementary School.
Let's go back: This program was born in 2015 and since then 50 schools in the district have participated.
- Classes are offered by Parent Support Specialists or volunteer teachers in partnership with Austin Council PTA and Texas PTA.

'Maestro en Casa' celebra a su graduado número 1000
Durante una noche llena de emoción y orgullo, el Austin ISD celebró con orgullo su graduado número 1,000 de Maestro en Casa desde el inicio del programa en 2015.
- Los participantes asisten a clases en las escuelas de sus hijos para aprender inglés, manejar escenarios comunes y comprender vocabulario clave en áreas como Vivienda, Salud, Finanzas, Trabajo, Educación y Ciudadanía.
Por qué es importante: Los graduados del programa pueden apoyar mejor la educación de sus hijos y seguir participando en la comunidad del Austin ISD y más allá.
- "Es un honor estar aquí compartiendo un gran logro con nuestros padres", dijo Lynn Boswell, secretaria de la mesa directiva del Austin ISD. "Aprender un segundo idioma no es fácil. Requiere dedicación y mucha fuerza de voluntad - ustedes tienen una gran fortaleza de espíritu,"
Según las cifras: Los 175 graduados de este año proceden de 19 países y tienen nueve idiomas nativos.

Volvamos atrás: Este programa nació en 2015 y desde entonces han participado 50 escuelas del distrito.
