Tonight, we join our community in grieving the death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis. This tragedy reminds us that we must come together to speak out in saying this is not acceptable.

In Austin ISD, we have fully committed to social and emotional learning and providing safe and welcoming spaces for all students.

We welcome and nurture students with respect. We work diligently to engage our teachers, staff, and community so that together we can prepare our students to be strong leaders and involved community members who value and cherish one another.

We ask our Austin community to join us in protecting and educating our students so that they can grow up to realize their dreams. We stand with our students and our community in pursuing substantive change to make the world a safer place for all. 

In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

Esta noche, nos unimos a nuestra comunidad en el duelo por la muerte de Tyre Nichols en Memphis. Esta tragedia nos recuerda que debemos unirnos para decir que esto no es aceptable.

En el Austin ISD, nos hemos comprometido plenamente con el aprendizaje social y emocional y a proporcionar espacios seguros y acogedores para todos los estudiantes. Recibimos y educamos a los estudiantes con respeto.

Trabajamos de manera diligente para involucrar a nuestros maestros, al personal y a la comunidad para que juntos podamos preparar a nuestros estudiantes para que sean líderes fuertes y miembros participativos en la comunidad que se valoren y aprecien unos a otros.

Pedimos a nuestra comunidad de Austin que se una a nosotros en la protección y educación de nuestros estudiantes para que puedan crecer y hacer realidad sus sueños. Estamos con nuestros estudiantes y nuestra comunidad en la búsqueda de un cambio sustantivo para hacer del mundo un lugar más seguro para todos.
