Dear Team Austin ISD, 

As we near the end of the year, I am reflecting on all the successes we’ve achieved during what has been the hardest school year for many of us. We have stood up for what is right for our kiddos, and stayed focused on improving academics across the district. 

It has been my honor to lead Austin ISD these past two years and I am proud of all we have accomplished together. Last night, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees named me as its lone finalist for superintendent. Dallas has always held a special place in my heart, and I am not making this decision lightly. 

I know we have the right staff in Austin ISD to continue moving our work forward. The Leadership Team is well positioned to realize the district’s vision and mission, to prepare every student with the knowledge and skills to thrive in college, career, and life.

I look forward to finishing out this year strong as we celebrate our nearly 5,000 graduates starting next week. I cannot adequately express my gratitude for you all welcoming me into Austin and allowing me to lead this district. It has been an incredible pleasure that I will hold dear for years to come.

Estimado equipo del Austin ISD:

Al acercarnos al final del año, estoy reflexionando acerca de todo el éxito que hemos logrado durante el que ha sido el ciclo escolar más difícil para muchos de nosotros. Hemos defendido lo que es mejor para nuestros niños y nos hemos mantenido enfocados en mejorar los resultados académicos en todo el distrito. 

Ha sido un honor liderar al Austin ISD durante estos últimos dos años y estoy orgullosa de todo lo que hemos logrado juntos. Anoche, la mesa directiva del Dallas ISD me nombró la única finalista para superintendente. Dallas siempre ha tenido un lugar especial en mi corazón y no estoy tomando esta decisión a la ligera. 

Sé que tenemos al personal adecuado en el Austin ISD para continuar nuestro trabajo. El equipo de liderazgo está en una buena posición para hacer realidad la visión y la misión del distrito, para preparar a cada estudiante con el conocimiento y las destrezas necesarias para prosperar en la universidad, la carrera profesional y la vida.

Espero terminar este año de forma sólida al celebrar a nuestros casi 5,000 graduandos a partir de la próxima semana. No puedo expresar adecuadamente mi gratitud hacia todos ustedes por haberme dado la bienvenida a Austin y por permitirme liderar este distrito. Ha sido un placer increíble que valoraré profundamente en los años por venir.
