We’re asking Austin ISD students and staff to bring bottles of cooled, boiled water to school Monday as the city is under a boil water notice.

Why it matters: We’re looking to make sure students and staff are well hydrated and safe while the city is under a boil water notice.

• School will start as scheduled on Monday.
• We’re temporarily removing access to water fountains and bottle refill stations. 
• We're delivering bottled water to campuses today in case students/staff forget or run out of water.

Here’s how we will serve lunch safely: There will be a modified menu that will use less water in the cooking process.

• Kitchens are boiling large quantities of water using industrial equipment.
• Dishes are being sanitized with dishwashers that reach a high internal temperature and can sanitize the dishes. 

This isn’t a plumbing problem.

• It’s still safe to wash your hands using soap and tap water.
• The toilets still flush.

We’re all going to be very safe as long as we use bottled or boiled water.

Driving the news: The city of Austin issued its water boil notice Saturday evening because of a malfunction at the Ullrich Water Treatment Plant.

• Under such a notice, you should boil water for at least 2 minutes then let it cool before drinking. 
• Residents are also asked to conserve water.

Por qué es importante: Queremos asegurarnos de que los estudiantes y el personal estén bien hidratados y seguros mientras la ciudad está bajo un aviso de hervir el agua. 

• Las clases comenzarán el lunes, según estaba programado.
• Estamos eliminando temporalmente el acceso a los bebederos y a las estaciones de relleno de botellas.
• Estamos entregando agua embotellada a los planteles hoy en caso de que a los estudiantes y al personal se les olvide o acabe el agua.

Cómo serviremos el almuerzo de forma segura: Habrá un menú modificado que utilizará menos agua en el proceso de cocción. 

• Las cocinas están hirviendo grandes cantidades de agua utilizando equipo industrial.
• Los platos se están desinfectando en lavaplatos que alcanzan una alta temperatura interna y pueden desinfectar los platos.

Este no es un problema de plomería.

• Sigue siendo seguro lavarse las manos con jabón y agua de la llave.
• Se pueden seguir bajando las tazas de los baños. 

Todos estaremos perfectamente seguros siempre y cuando utilicemos agua embotellada o hervida. 

Encabezando las noticias: El ayuntamiento de Austin publicó un aviso de hervir el agua el sábado en la noche a causa de un fallo en la planta de tratamiento de agua Ullrich.

• Bajo tal aviso, deben hervir el agua por al menos 2 minutos y luego dejarla enfriar antes de tomarla.
• También se les pide a los residentes que conserven el agua.
