The Austin Independent School District will recognize César Chávez-Dolores Huerta Day on Wednesday, March 31. The Hispanic civil rights leaders formed the United Farm Workers Union in the 1960s to protest the poor treatment of laborers.

The district will honor their lives and legacies by engaging students and staff in lessons focusing on both Chávez and Huerta and through messages shared on morning announcements and social media.

Everyone is invited to observe the holiday by participating in the ¡Si Se Puede! Day of Action and Community Service sponsored by the Austin Latino Coalition. Volunteers can sign up for shifts online to help distribute fresh produce, water and personal protective equipment beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27 at Eastside Memorial Early College High School, 1012 Arthur Stiles Rd, Austin, TX 78721. The event will run from 9 a.m. – noon. Voter registration will also be on site.

El Distrito Escolar Independiente de Austin reconocerá el Día de César Chávez y Dolores Huerta el miércoles, 31 de marzo. Los líderes hispanos de derechos civiles formaron la Unión de Trabajadores Agrícolas Unidos en la década de los años 60 para protestar por el mal trato de los trabajadores.

El distrito honrará sus vidas y legados al involucrar a los estudiantes y al personal en lecciones centradas en tanto Chávez como Huerta, y a través de mensajes compartidos en los anuncios de la mañana y las redes sociales.

Todos están invitados a conmemorar el día festivo al participar en el día de acción y servicio a la comunidad, ¡Sí Se Puede!, patrocinado por la Coalición de Latinos de Austin. Los voluntarios pueden inscribirse en línea en los turnos para ayudar a distribuir los productos agrícolas frescos, agua y equipo de protección personal desde las 7:30 a.m. del sábado, 27 de marzo en la Escuela Preparatoria de Universidad Temprana Eastside Memorial, 1012 Arthur Stiles Rd, Austin, TX 78721. El evento será de 9 a.m. al mediodía. El registro de votantes también estará en el lugar.
