Dear Austin ISD Community,

I am humbled and excited to officially introduce myself to you. I consider it a true privilege to have been appointed your new Superintendent of Schools.

Austin ISD has earned a reputation for academic excellence and for providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for every student. My focus is to propel Austin ISD forward as we keep in mind the best interests of EVERY child. I am committed to continuing to learn, support, and build a culture of inclusion and equity with Austin’s diverse community.

In addition to the robust educational programs, it was the level of community involvement that drew me to this district. I have experienced it firsthand over the past few days, as district leaders, families, residents and community groups welcomed me and offered their support. I intend to make every effort to foster and cultivate these relationships to ensure the continued success of our students, schools and community.

As I take on this new role, know that my educational philosophy is reflected in the following three statements.:

• Excellence and equity in education for EVERY student.
• People support what they help to create.
• The teacher is the program.

 As superintendent, I intend to lead with compassion, courage, and confidence. But, I can’t do it alone. Together, we can create a culture and climate that serves the whole child, closing opportunity gaps and creating boundless success throughout all of Austin ISD.
 
I look forward to this new school year while being mindful that, as we navigate the pandemic together, it will be unlike any other school year. The safety and well-being of our staff and students are paramount in our decision-making, and I am dedicated to keeping you informed and maintaining open lines of communication. Collaborating with one another, transparently and honestly, we can do great things. I invite you to email me, ask me questions, and share your perspective.

Estimada comunidad del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Austin:

Estoy conmovida y emocionada al presentarme oficialmente. Considero un verdadero privilegio haber sido nombrada su nueva superintendente de escuelas.

El distrito escolar de Austin se ha ganado una reputación de excelencia académica y de proveer un ambiente de aprendizaje seguro y acogedor para todos los estudiantes. Mi objetivo es impulsar al distrito escolar de Austin hacia adelante con el beneficio de TODOS los niños en mente. Estoy comprometida a seguir aprendiendo, apoyando, y construyendo una cultura de inclusión y equidad con la diversa comunidad de Austin. 

Además de los sólidos programas educativos, fue el nivel de participación comunitaria lo que me atrajo de este distrito. Lo he experimentado personalmente durante los últimos días, en los que los líderes del distrito, las familias, los residentes, y los grupos comunitarios me dieron la bienvenida y ofrecieron su apoyo. Pretendo hacer el mayor esfuerzo posible para fomentar y cultivar estas relaciones para garantizar el éxito continuo de nuestros estudiantes, escuelas y comunidad.

Al aceptar este nuevo rol, sepan que mi filosofía educacional está reflejada en las siguientes declaraciones:

• Excelencia y equidad en la educación para CADA estudiante
• La gente apoya lo que ayuda a crear.
• El maestro es el programa.

Como superintendente, pretendo liderar con compasión, valor, y confianza. Pero no puedo hacerlo sola. Juntos podemos crear una cultura y ambiente que sirva al niño de manera integral al cerrar brechas de oportunidad y al crear un éxito ilimitado en todo el distrito escolar de Austin. 

Espero con ilusión este nuevo ciclo escolar, y al mismo tiempo estoy consciente de que, al abrirnos paso juntos a través de la pandemia, este será diferente a cualquier otro ciclo escolar. La seguridad y el bienestar de nuestro personal y estudiantes es fundamental en nuestra toma de decisiones y estoy dedicada a mantenerlos informados y a mantener abiertas las líneas de comunicación. Al colaborar unos con otros de forma transparente y honesta, podemos lograr grandes cosas. Los invito a enviarme un correo electrónico, hacerme preguntas, y compartir su perspectiva.
